Rhoda Whitten smiles as the parade passes her.

At approximately 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 13, a furor arose just one block north of the 600 block of South Wilson Avenue. Suddenly and without warning, a parade of vehicles began a slow trek down South Wilson Avenue, where Rhoda Whitten and family members sat on her front porch. As drivers approached her home, the honking of horns grew more frequent, and Whitten could see the parade was for her. It was coming from her fellow Crickette Club members, who shouted and waved as they passed.
