Like many people, groups and organizations, the Lakeland Corvette Club shows its appreciation to those on the front lines during the COVID-19 pandemic by conducting appreciation parades. Chief among those honored are police officers, firefighters, EMTs, and doctors, nurses and other health care personnel. The club also holds appreciation parades for the residential in senior living facilities.

On Wednesday, May 6, the club held yet another parade.

"This was the fourth time we did it," said Tony Murray of Bartow. He added he was pleased with the number of people who participated. "The one we did yesterday, we had 50. Usually we have about 30."

This parade, he said, began in Winter Haven and among those honored were those who work at Winter Haven Hospital. It drove past several other facilities on Overlook Drive before finishing its Winter Haven leg at the Polk County Sheriff's Office campus on Winter Lake Road.

From there the Lakeland Corvette Club made its way to Bartow, where those who participated drove past Bartow Regional Medical Center/Watson Clinic facilities, the police and fire departments.

"We wanted to do two of the nursing homes in Bartow, but we couldn't because of work being done on those roads," said Murray. He added the club hopes to do a parade for the nursing homes in the near future.

The next parade, he believed, would be in the Haines City/Davenport area of the county.

He also clarified that the Lakeland Corvette Club isn't actually a club in the formal sense. It's more of a social club.
