Future Kiwanis Club Meetings Moved to Leland Young's Barn

Last updated 6/3/2020 at 2:30pm

The Kiwanis Club meeting of May 29 had a great presentation about improving education in Polk County by Kate Wallace from Lakeland Leads. Improving educational opportunities in Polk County is essential to attracting economic development, and it was wonderful to hear about the efforts Lakeland Leads is making on behalf of our students and our school district.

The guest presenter for Friday June 5 will be Brandon Fischer with GATORLAND, who will be Zooming with us next week.

• Since it is unlikely the Civic Center will re-open for meetings before August, we will begin having meetings at Leland Young's Barn in Alturas on Fridays at 5:30 p.m. starting June 12. This will be in place of our Friday noon meetings. We will still be offering a Zoom option for those who can't make it out to the Barn. Masks will not be required at the Barn meetings. There will not be a meal, but the grills will be fired up if you'd like to bring something to cook or to share. As always, the Barn also welcomes adult beverages.

• We have received information that Bill Mills is retiring. When we do get back to meeting at the Civic Center, we will need to find a new caterer or caterers. If you would like to serve on the committee to find a new caterer, or if you have a vendor you'd like to suggest, please contact President Nick.
