Bartow, Auburndale Share Third in 2020 Census Challenge

Last updated 6/10/2020 at 10:27am

Polk City is beginning to resemble the glory decades of the New York Yankees, or the New England Patriots of recent note. Week in and week out Polk City wins the weekly Community Census Challenge tally. Meanwhile, while Bartow and Auburndale continue to duke it out for (usually) second place, this week Highland City has pulled off a surprise on the two, racing to second place and within striking distance of Polk City.

Polk City, a with 62.3 percent response rate, may have let out with a breath of relief, perhaps caught unawares of Highland City nipping at its heels, with a return rate of 61.8 percent. However, Bartow and Auburndale's rate of return is nothing to be ashamed about. Each came in at 61.5 percent.

What seems to be the niche it has carved out for itself, Lake Hamilton has sole possession of last place, but with a slight glimmer of hope. This week its response to the census challenge climbed to 16.2 percent, up from 15.7 percent the week before.

Countywide, the response rate is 56.6 percent. Statewide it is 58.1 percent. The total U.S. response is 60.7 percent.
