Polk School Board Candidate Forum Set for July 27

The four candidates for Polk County School Board will be participating in a public forum Monday, July 27, just three weeks before the Aug. 18 election.

Brandon Alvarado from the Lake Wales Arts Council will serve as moderator of the forum, which will begin at 7 p.m. at the Ouellette Law Firm meeting room, 151 E. Central Ave. in Lake Wales. Limited seating will be available in order to practice social distancing.

First term incumbent District 1 School Board member Billy Townsend is being challenged by college professor William Allen. Teacher Anita Carson is challenging 16-year incumbent Lori Cunningham for the District 2 School Board seat. Carson, Cunningham and Townsend have committed to attending in person, while Allen may participate online.
