Bartow Drops to Fourth in Community Census Challenge

Last updated 7/22/2020 at 10:34am

(Editor's Note: executive editor Steve Steiner suffered a heart attack June 26. Only now is he returning to writing and editing, which is why there has not been the Community Census Challenge postings these past several weeks.)

It seems as if nothing is going to dislodge Polk City from the number one position in the Community Census Challenge, leaving other communities to duke it out among themselves for second and third place. This week finds Davenport holding down second place (63.0 percent),with a whopping lead over Auburndale, at 62.2 percent; Bartow lags behind with a response rate of 62.1 percent.

The big surprise is that several weeks ago, Lake Hamilton appeared to have a lock on last place, with tallies that didn't break the 20 percent mark. But miracle of miracles, it has climbed out of the dungeon, coming in at 44.2 percent, a full percentage point higher than the new bottom-dweller, Dundee, at 43.2 percent.

Countywide, the response rate is 57.7 percent; state is 59.2 percent; and nationwide it is 62.1 percent
