Bartow Mired in Fourth Place in Census Challenge

Last updated 7/31/2020 at 8:33am

The good news is that almost all communities in Polk County (as well as across the state and nation) are showing increased responses in the 2020 Census Challenge. Locally, Bartow cannot seem to extricate itself from fourth place.

Of course, it goes without saying, Polk City still leads the county, this past week with a 63.6 percent response rate. Hot on its heels, however, is Davenport, at 63.5 percent. Auburndale is a far third place, with 62.6 percent. Bartow is at 62.4 percent.

Over the past weeks, Lake Hamilton, which appeared to forever remain at the very bottom, has been pulling itself up by its bootstraps. This week's tally is 45.5 percent response rate, and is now ahead of not one but two other communities. Dundee now occupies the bottom at 43.9 percent, with Frostproof at 44.7 percent.

Countywide, Polk's response rate is up, now at 58.1 percent. Florida is at 59.5 percent. Nationwide, the tally is 62.4 percent
