Supervisor Blames Florida Rain and Humidity

Polk Supervisor of Elections Lori Edwards has confirmed "a very small handful of people" have reported problems with their vote by mail return envelopes being sealed shut.

Lance Muse contacted LakeWalesNews.net concerned that his vote might not be counted if he repaired the torn envelope with tape. He said his return envelope was totally sealed shut and he could not use it without damaging the seal. He said his wife's ballot was partially sealed shut but they were able to get it open.

Edwards blamed Florida rain and humidity for the envelope problem. She offered these options to remedy the problem:

1) Voter can slit the envelope open, complete and sign the envelope as normal. Tape it closed where they slit it and initial next to the tape

2) Voter can give us a call and we will be happy to send them a new envelope.

3) Elections office can arrange for voter to pick up a new envelope at the Bartow office.

Voters with concerns should contact Vote by Mail Manager Cathy Bridges if they would like a new envelope, which is what Edwards said she would do if she had the problem.

Bridges can be reached via email at [email protected] or by calling 863-534-5888.
