Bartow Kiwanis Update - Sept. 22

Last updated 9/23/2020 at 8:04am

Good evening, Kiwanians,

RECAP: At Club, trivia master Frank Johnson raffled off several adult beverages to a very full house. It was wonderful to have so many Kiwanians in attendance! Ana Wood, Solid Waste Director for Polk County, gave an informative presentation on the state of our landfill and the ins and outs of the recycling process.

This past Friday, Sept. 18, Robbie Bell was with us to discuss the bee industry. Bees play a vital role in agriculture and in our ecosystem.

• Sept. 25 will be President Nick Zbreznj's last official meeting as President. Outgoing Lt. Gov. Nanette Clark will join us to swear in our new officers. You will not want to miss our traditional passing of the pin ceremony. Past presidents, please wear your orange blazers. Because we expect a larger than average crowd, this meeting will take place at Idlewood, not the Nest 160, so that we can socially distance appropriately. You should have received a separate email invitation for that event. If not, please let me know. RSVPs are required for that luncheon.

• Bartow Kiwanis's 52 Weeks of Service kicks of with the start of our 2020-21 year. For this initiative to be successful, we need Kiwanians to 1) suggest service projects that we can promote to our club and 2) COMMIT to participating and then bragging about it. So many members of our club already do so much for our community. So your incoming president (that's me) know what you do in our community and what you would like to see Kiwanis do to serve our community better.

• Program Director Sarah Case has graciously agreed to stay on for the 2020-21 year, but she needs your help to continue to bring programs to our club. To that end, we are going back, back, I say! to the "sign up for a month" member-driven program system. This week at club, there will be a sign up sheet so that members can sign up to be responsible for one month of programming. This not only makes life easier for our Program Director, who will help facilitate, but it also ensures greater variety of programming. HINT: If you partner up with fellow Kiwanians, you can split a month up.

Sept. 25, noon – Club Meeting (Idlewood): Installation, Passing of the Pin, and President Nick's Farewell Address

Oct. 2, noon – Club Meeting: Incoming President's Address

Oct. 9, noon – Club Meeting: TBA (ahem . . . see above announcement re: programs)

Oct. 13, 6 p.m. – Board Meeting: Boswell & Dunlap
